The Plaza Hotel renovated in 2008 to include condos. There are still hotel rooms in which you can stay, in fact more hotel rooms than condos according to the Wikipedia.
The other Meg Cabot books Mia references as being inferior to include 1-800-WHERE-R-YOU, in which a 16-year-old girl is given extraordinary psychic powers after being struck by lightning, and All American Girl, about a girl who stops an attempted assassination.
