On this week’s episode Clare and I read Revenge of the Wannabes, the third installment in Lisi Harrisons The Clique series. You can listen to this episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you like to listen. As a reminder, some of these links, including our Bookshop.org link, are affiliates.
In our free time this week, Clare read The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff and I read The Perfect Wife by Leila Slimani (0:23). (Author’s note: I still have not finished this book at the time of writing this.)
We also still haven’t decided whether Southern Charm Savannah is more cringeworthy than Below Deck Mediterranean. To Clare’s credit, BDM has 5 seasons, but Southern Charm Savannah had so much drama. Also, if Shep (from Southern Charm OG) is reading this: call me. (6:27)
All of the TikToks I found using the “my bitch got a body like Alba, what up dog, I’m the alpha” sound led me to believe none of these teens have seen Jessica Alba and would just think of her as “that lady from those diaper commercials” if I showed them here picture (9:57). This is the more wholesome content to which we were referring (10:16).
Clare’s definitely right about Teen Vogue‘s incorporation of political activism in its content, but they do still incorporate some room makeovers and articles about the Gossip Girl reboot (btw, stay tuned for our future episodes about Gossip Girl) (14:52).

If you’re interested in channeling your inner Massie and picking up your own bleach dye set (revenge paint not included), here’s a cute one from Etsy (25:15).

As for real-world things mentioned in this book, I couldn’t find any Pucci maternity caftans because a caftan is a caftan (54:57), and the only soy chips (56:30) I could find were for candle making so I won’t link them. Plus I promised Clare I wouldn’t, so not a loss.

State of the Union
